About Antipolíticas

Antipolíticas was founded by Gaby Riffle-Gonzalez, a 2nd Generation Cuban-American & Marine Corps Veteran.

Gaby’s family journey spans continents and centuries. In the 19th century, her ancestors left Spain for Cuba, driven by political upheaval and unrest. A century later, the Cuban Revolution forced her family to flee again in 1961, this time to the United States, settling in South Florida and Puerto Rico. The stories her grandparents would tell her of their “Orgullosa Isla” left Gaby yearning to reconnect with the vibrant Spanish and Cuban cultures she could only glimpse through family stories and the traditions kept alive in South Florida during her upbringing.

Antipolíticas is her tribute to those roots, a bold celebration of heritage preserved despite displacement at the hands of corrupt politicians disguised as revolutionaries and those who brought them to power by conforming to the prevailing sentiment.

Gaby arrived at the Naval Academy in the Summer of 2013, a short time after "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was officially repealed in 2011. Her and her wife Lauren got married in 2019, not long after same-sex marriage was nationally legalized. It's a good thing she wasn't around in Cuba during the Revolution (1959-1961) when LGBT were imprisoned or killed for who they loved. Politicians' personal insecurities driving hate, discrimination and mass murder is outdated. Leave that bullsh*t and those politics at the door.

During her time in the Marine Corps, Gaby observed too many situations where bullsh*t & politics took priority over taking care of Marines. Too many leaders conformed to office politics and did what was easy, instead of what was right.

We don’t conform to the prevailing sentiment that openly commits wrongs, we are Nonconformists.

In a world where politics too often destroy the ideals and heritage of the communities and cultures we treasure most, we are Antipolíticas.
